Where to buy the very best custom made cakes in Vienna?
Well, well, well… yes, you heard me asking… where to get the best custom made cakes in Vienna and definitely the most delicious… I’m going to explain why I’m writing this blog and how it all started.
As you might already know, some of my sessions include cakes. Yes, I photoshoot cakes for a session called Cake Smash or as some others call it: trash the cake and smash the cake. Babies who are about to turn one year old taste, often for the very first time, a cake. The session includes a series of portraits of the child and then we surprise the baby with a beautiful cake. Usually the baby does not know what to do with it, but soon the instincts kick in… the child puts a finger in the cake and then BAM… straight to the mouth. Here begins a series of fun pictures showing the baby who has never tried a cake before feeling super happy about tasting this sweet delicious creation.
Of course, to make beautiful pictures, I needed a beautiful cake, so I thought, I’ll make one myself, what do you think?
Mmm, well, at this point, I assume, you agree with me that it does not live up to my standards or anyones! I dont know what's worse, the cake or the picture? And I cannot seriously do a photoshoot with my cakes. It was then I realised that I needed a professional baker to do this for me.
I tested and bought several cakes all over Vienna, but only one really made a huge impression on me. I found JoJo's Cakes & Bakes thru a FB group called Women of Vienna. First impressions were that Jo's wasn’t just super friendly, but she could make the cake exactly as I needed it to be AND she would also ask questions, just to make sure she would make the cake I wanted. Everything was checked and double checked and she made this cake for my very first Cake smash session with a customer. Isn’t it beautiful?
So, after this, I had to go and find out more about Joannas and how exactly she makes the cakes. So as a small business, she runs her business from home. She invited me to her house and I experienced the whole process.
Joanna, is not just a person who decided yesterday to bake cakes. She is a fully trained chef and worked for some of the most prestigious restaurants in Vienna where she designed their entire menus and they are still in use. She, just as me, found her niche and decided to do what she loves the most, baking cakes and decorating them.
She uses top ingredients, such as the finest Belgian chocolate and also caters for allergies as well as vegans.
To begin the process, she had already everything prepared for the decoration. She had the vanilla sponge cut into 4 layers, the strawberries and the jam that goes into it. The jam, is also home made with the finest organic strawberries in town. Be assured, that every single ingredient in her cake is top notch!
She proceeded to layer the cake with the butter cream, the strawberries and the jam
Then she decorated the outside of the cake and was very meticulous in making sure that her layers of buttercream looked perfect. I could tell she has been doing this for years and is a skill that didn’t happen overnight . She made it look so easy!
Finally she decorated it with the drip and the sprinkles as the final touch
All in all the decoration process took around 4 hours. Add to that the amount of time that it took her to do the sponge which she had baked the night before. Not an easy task!
So, as you can see, I am super enthusiastic about recommending her to make a cake for you. And of course I recommend myself too (LOL), because I will include one of her cakes (which you can take home) for your baby’s cake smash session. And who doesn’t want a beautiful cake in their babies 1st birthday pictures? My pictures will also be beautiful! ;)
My Cake Smash session
Finally, if you made it to the end, I assume that you are also interested in seeing some cake smash photos. Here are some of a session I recently took. The cake was also baked by Joanna.
